Purchasing Manager

Location: Chicago North Side, IL

Summary: A stable 18 year old Powersports company, looking to expand and grow is seeking a key manager to join the executive team.

Position Summary;

Our client is the largest distributor of parts and accessories in the industry, a nation-wide specialty business with passionate following in the 2 wheel marketplace.  They have experienced rapid growth in sales and are expanding their product base.  Our client needs seasoned help with their forecasting, timely ordering of goods, SKU turn analysis, sourcing, cost containment, coordinating inbound shipments, contract negotiation and supplier management.

Individual Responsibilities:

  • Responsible and accountable for global sourcing for two major companies in the two-wheel industry.  
  • Evaluates, develops and selects sources of suppliers for goods and services.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of major contracts while developing long term market analysis.
  • Develops long term sourcing strategy for specified products based on future growth of the company.  
  • Develops, initiates, and leads efforts in strategic supply chain initiatives. Such initiatives may include but are not limited to the following; 
  • Long term sourcing strategies
  • Developing and maintaining positive business relationships with critical suppliers.
  • Occasional travel for supplier audits. 

The successful candidate will have experience with;

  • Forecasting, buying and inventory planning and control processes. 
  • Negotiating contracts & terms to accomplish financial goals and objectives.
  • Coordinating timing of shipments and transfers in accordance with the production planning schedule.
  • Reconciling supply contracts and maintaining adequate stocking levels.
  • Assessing and establishing minimum/maximum inventory levels for supplies & ingredients. 
  • Participating in cost reduction and inventory reduction programs.
  • Maintaining supplier relations; experience with suppliers in China, Taiwan and Indian a strong plus.
  • Maintaining and issuing vendor performance reports.
  • Resolving delivery problems and issuing performance goals.
  • Analytical, statistical skills, PC skills including MS Office, MOM or other mail order management systems.
  • Negotiating skills and ability to resolve conflict and multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Clearly articulating goals and objectives.
 
Requirements:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years' work experience in a forecasting or buying capacity
  • Experience with vehicle; scooter, motorcycle, or auto industries preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Leadership skills and the ability to work in a team effort
  • History of attaining goals and performance improvements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding time management skills
  • Strong documentation skills
  • An outgoing personality combined with the ability to set clear goals and implement company initiatives
