Job Title: Systems Administrator Location: Rolling Meadows, IL Summary: A solid well established corporation in the Rolling Meadows/Schaumburg area is looking for a Systems Administrator. Provides direct technical support for the coordination, programming, and implementation of releases, upgrades, or changes to Windows operating system software and the range of products and productivity tools that support production and test environments relating to Windows computing. Responsible for troubleshooting and providing root cause analysis for server problems. Researches, evaluates and recommends software and hardware products. Supports Web access, electronic messaging services, remote application access and maintains a secure systems environment.
Responsibilities; Technical § Performs detailed configuration of operating systems and layered products including TCP/IP networking, patch management, device management and user environment management. Includes system installations and upgrades, operating system and layered product installation and upgrades, patch analysis, installation and management. § Configures and maintains hardware and software comprising high availability environment including Citrix, SQL Clustering, Active Directory and EMC storage sub-systems. Responds to Help Desk, Production Operations and user requests regarding Windows services. § Act as main point of contact for support tickets and troubleshooting to issues reported by customers. § Monitors and responds to file server hardware and software failures. Maintain maximum system uptime for production systems and applications. § Assist in the management and administration of the Exchange email environment ensuring the stable operation of in-house Exchange & Blackberry e-mail messaging systems and their corresponding hardware and software. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining and supporting all network connections and communication links. § Ensures Mail systems are operational through monitoring tools, replication, and routing.
Operational § Works with database and system administrators, applications programmers, Production Operations, Enterprise Security, etc. to ensure effective data security, integrity and recoverability procedures are in place at all times. § Prepares performance analysis, and forecasting. § Writes operational procedures and documentation per established guidelines and performs training of operations staff as required. § Develops and tests disaster recovery procedures for AD environment. § Works with Production Operations to train and implement automation of Production Operations functions/tasks. § Maintains current Service Level Agreements as required. § Interacts with internal customers to implement solutions; keeps customers and Systems Support Manager updated on progress.
Administrative § Works collaboratively on such activities as performance problems, hardware/software upgrades, application program design reviews, new application setup/implementation, and application workload growth prediction/measurement. § The Systems Administrator must be able to handle a high degree of complexity and work with management to set correct expectations of what can and can't be done § Thoroughly documents installation and use of applications, including hardware and software components. § Shares acquired knowledge with other administrators to maintain and foster teamwork among staff. § Documents all changes per Technology Services standards. § Ensures all system requests and incidents are recorded and documented in trouble ticket system or current equivalent. § Clearly and concisely compose correspondence and reports that are consistent with company policy to both internal and external audiences. Works closely with Technology Services Team and peers in other areas of IT. § Participates in technical strategy meetings for server management, applications architecture development and performance reporting. § Prepares project plans as required and manages same to meet time requirements. § Support, maintain and enhance a number of technology solutions that have a high degree of complexity and integration

Participates in on-call
rotation to provide 24x7 support. Qualifications; § BS in Computer Science or related discipline; or related work experience § 2+ years of Windows Server administration experience in a 1000+ user, production-quality distributed environment. § Ability to perform server, email, and network administration skills to include upgrades and maintenance of hardware, operating systems, LAN/WAN, DNS, TCP/IP, WINS, DHCP, SAN, NAS and storage support functions § Proficiency with network/operating, email & directory systems (Exchange 2003, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP Pro, Active Directory and LDAP). § Working knowledge, experience and understanding of Windows Script Host and Windows Scripting to administer servers & workstations en masse is a plus. § Excellent organizational skills - including the ability to work effectively and independently in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities and deadline pressures. § Commitment to excellence in customer service and the ability to work in a team environment. § Must be able to work outside normal hours in order to perform diagnosis and/or implementation of product releases or changes, so that normal workflow is not interrupted. § Working knowledge, experience and understanding of SMS 2003. § Experience with HP DataProtector 5.x or similar enterprise tape backup software is desirable § Experience with Citrix Presentation Server & Exchange administration in a 1000+ user, production-quality distributed environment is a great plus. § Understanding of Citrix Presentation Server 4.X and related Web technologies and interfaces. § Ability to monitor, and achieve goals with moderate supervision. § Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people. § Experience in project planning and management is a plus.
