Computer Operator / Operational Support Analyst
 

Summary:

The Operational Support Analyst is responsible for monitoring multi-technology computing platforms including midrange platforms and or servers. Responsible for ensuring a stable operating environment and attaining maximum reliability of system facilities. Operates and monitors console systems and peripheral equipment such as disk drives and tape readers. Troubleshoots and restores routine technical service and peripheral equipment, schedules production runs, performs system backup process, disaster recovery tests, loads tapes, and disks as needed. Assists systems analysts in scheduling and monitoring batch processing.

This position provides first/second level technical support for all equipment in the data center to include servers, networking gear, and facility environmentals.  This position provides administration and maintenance services for systems and the facility critical to our clients business.  This person will utilize basic UNIX, Windows and networking knowledge to provide basic troubleshooting and restore services quickly when necessary.  This is a complex and technical position requiring knowledge in analyzing issues, applying technical solutions, making sound decisions on processes and issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors and reports on all facility environmental (cooling, electrical, and space) utilizations.
  • Monitors and responds to Help Desk and user requests regarding Windows and UNIX services.
  • Monitors and responds to networking and file server hardware and software failures.  Maintains maximum system uptime for production systems and applications.
  • Troubleshoot, remediate and / or escalate system issues appropriately to the proper Systems Support team.
  • Monitors, troubleshoots, administers & reports statuses on all backups utilizing HP DataProtector and batch processing.
  • Manages to current Service Level Agreements as required.
  • Communicates critical information to management, other IT staff and users as appropriate.
  • Ensures stable performance of the Data Center environment; identifies and resolves or properly escalates issues.
  • Serves as first level support resource for system outages or issues.
  • Adheres to hardware, operating system, and server software standards.
  • Works with other infrastructure teams to ensure effective Data Center security, integrity and recoverability procedures are in place at all times.
  • Enforces data center wiring, racking, labeling, and reporting standards.
  • Runs all application software to monitor data center and updates all reports of status and availability.
  • Schedules and maintains production/batch processing utilizing job scheduling software.
  • Share acquired knowledge with other administrators to maintain and foster teamwork among staff.
  • Follow all documented processes & procedures per IT departmental standards.
  • Ensure all system requests and incidents are recorded and documented in trouble ticket system.
  • Clearly and concisely compose correspondence and reports that are consistent with company policy to both internal and external audiences
  • Document all changes per Technology department standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to excellence in customer service and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline; or related work experience

  • 1-3 years of server (UNIX and/or Windows) and related administration experience in a production-quality distributed environment.

  • Experience working as part of a team of technical administrators to achieve desired goals.

  • Proficient or familiar with Windows 2000/2003 or HP-UX operating systems, Active Directory, Citrix, SMS, NAS, EMC SAN, HP DataProtector and MS Exchange 2003.

  • Proficient or familiar with network components Cisco, TCP/IP, DHCP, WINS, DNS, SMTP, and Firewall.

  • Understanding of Citrix and Web technologies and interfaces.

  • Basic knowledge of internal and external disks, hardware connectivity, disk arrays, tape drives, hard-copy devices, hardware shutdown and boot-up procedures, disk format configuration and backup manager software.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work effectively and independently in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.

  • Must be able to work outside normal business hours in order to perform diagnosis and/or implementation of product releases or changes, so that normal workflow is not interrupted.

  • Ability to achieve goals with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.

  • Rotated on-call coverage is required, including weekends.

This opportunity is as a contract-to-hire for a term of 3 months.  You would be a consultant with Bantic for the term of the contract, then hired with our client.   The salary range for this position is open and is dependant on experience and skill set.  We are working to have good candidates lined up for our client.
